Position: Curatorial Research Assistant
Young Canada Works Program (YCW)
Term: June 9, 2009 – August 28, 2009 (12 weeks)
35 hours per week
Pay Scale: $11.50 per hour

Overview: The MacKenzie Art Gallery is a public art museum with a broad mandate to exhibit and collect historical and contemporary works of art. Our main focus is Canadian art, with a special focus on the art of western Canada and Saskatchewan. This Young Canada Works summer employment position will assist the Curators of the Gallery with on-going research in preparation for a upcoming exhibitions such as Indian Group of Seven and Jack Sures. The student will also have the opportunity to assist with the development of an exhibition based on recent acquisitions to the permanent collection. Furthermore, the participating student will gain important knowledge related to Canadian cultural heritage and the skills necessary to conduct research oriented toward the production of major art exhibitions and catalogues.

Responsibilities:
Research and write biographies and bibliographies of the artists in the Indian Group of Seven and Jack Sures exhibitions
Research photography for essay illustrations
Conduct research for grant applications

Qualifications:
Exhibition Research, Writing, and Production skills necessary for curatorial research and/or assistant curator positions in contemporary art galleries and museums
Third or fourth-year students in BA/BFA programs in Art or Art History
Proficient with word processing, library catalogue searches, and internet searches
Familiarity with databases an asset
Must be a registered full-time secondary or post-secondary student (intending to return to full-time studies)
Must be between 16 and 30 years of age
